TILLSONBURG, ONTARIO — Unifor Local 1859 members ended a five-day strike at the Autoneum plant today after ratifying a new collective agreement.

“I would like to congratulate all Unifor Local 1859 members for standing strong, fighting for and winning a fair contract,” said Naureen Rizvi, Unifor Ontario Regional Director. “This agreement would not have been possible without the memberships’ strength and solidarity as well as the hard work and dedication of the union’s bargaining team.”

Unifor members ratified a new 3 year agreement which provides a $2.15 wage increase over the life of the agreement, important improvements to the health care plan, increase to shift premiums and the introduction of a new 1% defined contribution pension plan to supplement the members existing defined benefit pension plan.

“On behalf of all Unifor Local 1859 members at Autoneum, we are deeply grateful for the strong community support we received throughout this dispute from everyone throughout Ingersoll, the region and the province,” said Lorraine Sinclair, Unifor Local 1859 President. “It is wonderful to see how strong our union truly is and to show the importance of workers taking action to demand the respect they deserve.”

The union represents 174 workers at the plant who manufacture auto parts for a variety of customers, including Detroit Three automakers.
